Braemar Road and Return
Approx: 36km ( 22.36 miles) Time: 1 hr 41 minutes About this ride: This is a mainly flat to undulating ride with some very do-able hills. Sealed surface through a quiet country road with sea ( on your return ) and farmland views.
Area: Matata ( To get there : 42.3 km from Te Puke. 24.4 km from Whakatane, 74 km from Rotorua )

Park and Start: In the settlement of Matata on the corner of Arawa St ( Main Street running through ) and Division St. There are toilets here next to the playground and also the Drift Expresso café.
Directions: Ride up Division St for 350 m
Left into SHW2 ( Pakeha St ) for 500m
Right into Manawahe Rd for 3.9km
Left into Caverhill Rd for 600m
Right into Braemar Rd for 12.6km to SHW 30 intersection.
Opposite and a little left is the Onepu Mountain bike Park ( you will need your mountain bike www.whakatane.info/business/onepu-mountain-bike-park ) Gold coin donation here.
Turning back the way you have come, 700m from the intersection with SHW 30 on the right hand side of the road is the Mangaone Stream Reserve picnic area (before you cross over the bridge). There is a swimming spot here, table and chairs by the river.
If you visit here on your way back take extra care as the crossing is on a blind corner.
An extension can be ridden by riding right out of Braemar Rd on SHW 30 to the Kawerau turn off and SHW 34. This is 6.5km one way. Return back to Braemar Rd.
This extension road is not as quiet as Braemar Rd. Giving a total of 49 km
